Tennis & Academics Program

Discover our brochure here

The Academy, and Justine Henin herself, feel all athletes need to obtain an academic diploma in order to keep options open. Whether they become professional players or not, there will come a time when they need to build a life after tennis and a diploma is essential to do so. We also believe in helping our athletes become well-rounded adults and education is essential in their growth as balanced individuals.

At the Academy, we work in two age groups: 12 to 15 and 16 to 18 years of age. Naturally, the tennis and fitness schedules are slightly different in terms of the physical work load. A comprehensive tennis program, which includes fitness, mental preparation, tournament support and medical follow-up, is combined with an academic program that provides the flexibility to combine with the rigorous tennis schedule.

All players have 3 hours of dedicated, supervised class time at the Academy each morning before starting the tennis and fitness program.

The educational program is mandatory for ages 12 to 15. For players 16 years old and over, we discuss the program for tennis and academics with the parents and player to find what suits best for that particular athlete. We provide 4 educational options to our athletes:

  1. Online U.S. High School (with online classes at the Academy)
  2. The Belgian Jury Central in French (with classes at the Academy)
  3. The Belgian Jury Central in Flemish/Dutch (with online classes at the Academy)
  4. International School (with classes at the school)

We work with an accredited, online U.S. High School which allows for a self-paced, flexible academic program that is very suitable for athletes. The program leads to a U.S. High School diploma, which provides access to universities around the world. As the school is NCAA approved, it also facilitates the path to a tennis scholarship at a top U.S. university. Three hours of online classes, supervised by a qualified adult, are followed by our athletes each weekday morning.

For those intending to stay in Belgium long term, we offer the Jury Central, the equivalent of a secondary school diploma from a traditional Belgian school. The Jury diploma, giving access to Belgian and European higher education. We offer both the Walloon and Flemish versions:

French - We work with a local ‘Jury Central’ preparation school for classes taught by qualified teachers at the Academy, three hours four mornings a week (not on Wednesdays).

Flemish - We offer supervised online classes for the "Examencommissie" in Dutch. These take place from 8:00-11:00 four days a week at the Academy (not on Wednesdays).

We also work with two international schools in the area. This allows students to obtain the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP) diploma or the British International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for access to universities worldwide.

We look forward to discussing the educational options with you in more detail to determine which program fits your child best. In special cases, we may consider players who are studying in a different school or curriculum than described above.
